Dale Eckman 1937-2024
LOWELLVILLE — Dale “Buck” Eckman, 87, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2024, in the comfort of hospice care at Windsor House.
Dale was born in Struthers, Aug. 3, 1937, a son of the late Clair Eckman and Edna Shaffer-Smith.
Dale grew up in Struthers, where he met and then married his high school sweetheart, Rita J. Huzicko Eckman on May 9, 1959, where they raised their three children. He worked for over 50 years as an operating engineer. He was a lifelong member of IUOE Local 66.
Buck enjoyed spending time with his family at their cottage on Lake Erie. He also loved taking care of his pool and garden. His hobbies included grilling, hunting and fishing. His sense of humor will be greatly missed by many.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his sons, David Eckman of Youngstown, Brian (Shelly) Eckman of Lowellville; and son-in-law, Bill Holby of Struthers. As a devoted grandfather, Buck leaves behind his beloved seven grandchildren, oldest, Kasey Eckman, Erin Eckman Woodward (Andrew), Courtney Eckman Dugan (Tyler), Lauren Eckman DeChellis (Christopher), Alexandra Holby-Motsko (Trevor), Bailey Eckman (Nathan Richards) and Ryan Eckman. His legacy will live on through his eight great-grandchildren, Anthony, Joey, Vivienne, Cru, Cambrie, Adrian, Tripp and Patrick; his brother, Fred Smith (Jerri); and sister-in-law, Paula Causer (Dave).
Besides his parents, Dale was preceded in death by his wife, Rita; daughter, Andra Holby; his brother, Tom Eckman; and sister, Ruth Smith.
Per Dale’s wishes, there will be no services or calling hours.
