Albert M. Dota Jr. 1946-2024

YOUNGSTOWN — Albert Michael Dota Jr., 77, of Boardman, passed away Wednesday, July 17, 2024.

He was born Nov. 21, 1946,­­­ son of the late Albert and Emma Jane Hunter Dota.

He served in Vietnam as an infantry mortarman and lived most of his life in Youngstown.

Al graduated high school from Cardinal Mooney in 1964, received his Bachelor of Arts degree majoring in math and minoring in economics from Youngstown State University in 1968, and his MBA from Xavier University in 1974. He worked as a quality control engineer early in his career primarily in Columbus and ultimately retired as a letter carrier from the Boardman branch of the U.S. Postal Service.

He played shortstop in his younger years and enjoyed golf, travel, yard work and Notre Dame football. He spent 40 years traveling to South Bend with his closest friends Bob Hamer, Howard Lewis and each of their families. He loved going to Columbus to see his grandchildren, whom he adored.

Al is survived by his wife of 52 years, Eileen DiMatteo Dota; children, Traci (Tony) Moore of New Albany and Bob Dota of Gahanna; grandchildren, Brandon, Gianna and Julia; brother, Robert (Sandy) Dota, brother-in-law, Ron Layko; and nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

In addition to his parents, Al was preceded in death by his sister, Nancy Layko.

Friends and family may call 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, July 26,, 2024, at the Rossi Brothers and Lellio Funeral Home, 4442 South Ave., Boardman, with a service to immediately follow at 1 p.m.
