Robert ‘Bob’ Charles Rupp 1941-2024

BOARDMAN — Robert “Bob” Charles Rupp, 83, passed away peacefully at his residence, Saturday, June 22, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born March 3, 1941, in Youngstown, the son of Sidney and Florence Bauschatz Rupp and was a lifelong area resident.

Bob was a 1959 graduate of South High School. He was employed as a paramedic with American Ambulance and then in July 1969 joined the Boardman Police Department as a patrolman. Bob then worked his way through the ranks and became a detective in April 1975. In October 1986, he was honored to be named lieutenant. He took so much pride in his work that after retirement, he reentered the workforce as a bailiff with the Mahoning County court for many years. He served under the late Judge Evans, followed by Judge Houser and officially retired in 2020 under Judge Scott Hunter.

He loved the community, and especially the Boardman Police Department, which he took dignity and pleasure in serving.

He was a member of Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 43 and Poland Presbyterian Church, where he enjoyed being an usher on Sunday mornings.

On weekend mornings, the door was always open and Bob loved having coffee with his buddies, and looked forward to having a great morning breakfast. He loved playing games of chance and making trips to the casino. He was gentle, patient and had the best words of advice for anyone seeking guidance. Bob was the most determined man who dedicated all of his hard work to provide for his family, who meant the whole world to him.

Bob leaves behind to hold onto his precious memories his wife of over 47 years, the former Deborah Allen, whom he married Oct. 9, 1976; his children, Heidi Logan, David Rupp, Erin Rice, Tara Arthur Larrick and Sydney (fiance Andrew Buonavolonta) Rupp; his brother-in-law, Russell Allen; his sister-in-law, Amy (Ed Gentile); and his nephew, Michael Burks. He also had three grandchildren, Lauren, Hannah and Hailey, along with many dear friends.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Richard Rupp, and two sisters, Donna (George Burks) and Betsy (Eddo) Matuszak.

Family and friends may pay their respects 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 27, 2024, at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4221 Market St., Boardman. Funeral services will be held privately for Bob’s family.

Burial will take place in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Boardman.

Bob’s family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the entire staff of Traditions Health Hospice for all of the care and compassion they’ve shown to Bob and his loved ones.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like any donations made to the Fraternal Order of Police No. 43, P.O. Box 3236 Boardman, OH 44513-3236.
