Jonathan C. Hamarik 1987-2024

BOARDMAN — “In the end, it’s not the years in your life that count, but the life in your years.”
With heavy hearts, we announce the unexpected passing of our beloved Jonathan Christopher Hamarik, who was taken from us too soon on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at the tender age of 37. He brought immeasurable joy and light into our lives with his soft and giving heart and radiant smile.
Jonathan, a beacon of unwavering friendship and kindness, has left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Though Jonathan’s time with us was brief, he lived a deeply fulfilled life and his legacy will live on forever.
Jonathan was born in Youngstown on May 17, 1987. He graduated from Cardinal Mooney High School in 2006 after an illustrious golf career, where he achieved the second-best scoring average in Mooney history. His 37.1 scoring average in 2005 is second only to his father’s — the late, great John Hamarik. He was a four-year letter winner, named first team All-SVC and All-Northeast Ohio District team. These achievements earned him a spot in Cardinal Mooney’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 2023.
Upon graduation, Jonathan was awarded a full athletic scholarship to Youngstown State University, where he played on the YSU Golf Team and majored in business marketing.
His next chapter led him to warmer climates where Jonathan remained in the golf industry, his true passion.
Jonathan was preceded in death by his adored father, John Hamarik, and his precious Grammy, Erna Fordyce.
He is survived by his devoted and loyal mother, Christy; caring stepfather, Kevin; dearest Grandpa Fordyce; cherished partner, Jessi; his treasured dogs, Doris, Louise, Daisy and Rosie; Uncle Jim (Jenn); as well as countless cousins and friends.
Jonathan found beauty in simple moments, saw the good in everyone and encouraged us all to do the same. Never knowing a stranger and being the definition of a true friend and giver, he will be deeply missed by all of us.
