Richard Lee Greathouse 1936-2024

HUBBARD — Richard “Dick” Lee Greathouse, age 87, gained his wings and entered the gates of Heaven on Monday, May 13, 2024.

Dick was born July 19, 1936, in Girard. He was the third of nine children of Lawrence E. and Florence Lee Greathouse. He attended Liberty Schools.

He worked at Youngstown Sheet and Tube for 30 years, retiring in 1983.

He attended Hubbard Church of the Nazarene and was an original founding member of Hello Brothers.

Dick enjoyed golfing, gardening, fishing, hunting and walking in the woods. He enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren play sports and never missed a game. He coached his boys’ baseball teams for 10-plus years. To many, he was known as “The Ram. “He enjoyed an occasional beer at Big Al’s Bar and Grille in Hubbard. He loved riding around the neighborhood in his golf cart chatting with neighbors.

Dick will be remembered and missed deeply by his family, which includes his wife of 65 years, the former Lois A. Zins, whom he married Feb. 5, 1959; his children, Richard (Gina) Greathouse of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Paul (Jill) Greathouse of Hubbard; and five grandchildren, Janine (Eric) Freire, Rebecca (Derek) Holman, Joshua (Amanda) Greathouse, Taylor (Bill) Gaffney and Alex (Taylor) Greathouse; and four great-grandchildren, Isaac, Xavier, Julianna and Hugo. He also leaves his siblings, William (Nancy) Greathouse of Burghill, Ohio, Mary Ann Stamp of Niles, Carol (Gary) Kibbler of Austintown and Doris (Dave) Schertzer of Austintown; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Roger Greathouse and Daniel Greathouse; and sisters, Betty Jean Mikulka and Marge Lytle.

A memorial service will be 11 a.m., with calling hours prior to the service from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, May 16, 2024, at Hubbard Church of the Nazarene.
