Martin N. Wohlgamuth 1952-2024

HUBBARD — Martin N. Wohlgamuth, 71, passed away unexpectedly at home, Saturday, May 4, 2024.

Martin was born Sept. 2, 1952, a son of Jack Jr. and Mary Ellen Newcome Wohlgamuth.

After graduating from Hubbard High School in 1970, Marty became an integral part of the family construction business. As eventual owner of Peoples Building Company, he sustained an admirable reputation for designing and building high-quality commercial and agricultural buildings to span several states.

He also built, owned and operated Interstate Storage in Hubbard, a successful storage-building business, making a cadre of friends in the process.

In addition to those two successful businesses, the Wohlgamuth family partnered with another local family, and as WW Builders Ltd., Marty was responsible for building and leasing multiple warehouses to Frito-Lay Inc. in Ohio and Pennsylvania.

In life and business, if Marty gave you his word, then that’s the way it was. He was known for the old-fashioned handshake and promise to fulfill his obligations, and if he said he was going to do something, it was done and done the right way.

Marty loved his little Ridgeview Farm, where he cared for his horses and dogs. He was an accomplished horseman and his love of horses led him to playing polo in his younger years. He was an avid polo player with the Mahoning Valley Polo Club, enjoyed raising English pointers and competed in field trials all over the area.

He will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by his family: the love of his life, his wife, the former Francine Raniol, whom he married July 6, 1974; his daughter, Lauren (Lewis) Stroud of Rocky Point, North Carolina; and two grandchildren, Merritt and Keller.

He also leaves his brother, Jack Wohlgamuth III of Hubbard.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Karen Syrakis.

Calling hours are 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, 2024, and 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, May 9, 2024, at Stewart-Kyle Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Marty will be laid to rest in Hubbard Union Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in his memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN. 38105.

Family and friends are invited to visit the funeral home’s website at www.stewart-kyle.com to share memories and condolences.
