Katherine M. Greene 1955-2024

POLAND — Katherine M. “Kathy” Greene, 68, passed away peacefully Monday, April 29, 2024, at Masternick Memorial, with her family by her side.

She was born Nov. 26, 1955, in Youngstown, a daughter of Lewis and Hilda Cripps Greene.

Kathy was a graduate of Poland Seminary High School. After graduating summa cum laude from Grove City College, Kathy embarked on a career in the private business sector before following her passion for teaching. She pursued further education at Youngstown State University to obtain her teaching certificate and master’s degree in mathematics. She dedicated 29 years of her life to educating and inspiring students in the Struthers City School system. Her commitment to her students and colleagues was unwavering, earning her respect and admiration within the school community.

Described as always dressed beautifully with a soft and sweet voice, Kathy exuded thoughtfulness and kindness in all aspects of her life. She had a special love for her family, especially her nieces and nephews, as well as the neighborhood children and families whom she cherished dearly.

Beyond teaching, Kathy found joy in various hobbies and interests that reflected her appreciation for the beauty of life and all of God’s creations. An avid reader with a deep love for animals, particularly dogs and birds, she also had a passion for flowers, photography and music. Her heart was oftentimes drawn to the beach where she found peace in collecting seashells, watching the waves ebb and flow and marveling at the beauty of sunrises and sunsets — all testaments to her profound connection to nature and faith. She found joy in the simple pleasures in life, such as engaging in card and board games with her nieces and nephews, as well as exchanging humorous stories and jokes with her loved ones. Her contagious laughter will forever be cherished by those who knew her.

Kathy was preceded in death by her parents and nephew, Kasey Collins, whom she adored.

She is survived by her brother, Britt (Judy) Greene of Poland; sister, Jane (Kenneth) Collins, of Spring, Texas; nieces, Kelly (Chad) Volovar, of Canfield, Amy (Stephen) Smith of Cincinnati, Allison Greene of Poland, and Erin Morris of Poland; great-nephews, Chad and Sean Volovar; and great-nieces, Kate and Alex Smith and Paige Morris.
