James R. Montgomery Sr. 1940-2024

He was born Sept. 13, 1940, in Boyers, Pa., to parents John K. and Lottie Seelbaugh Montgomery.

James proudly served his country as a veteran of the U.S. Navy. While still enlisted in the Navy, Jim married his beloved wife, Nancy Louise Hoffman Montgomery on Nov. 17, 1962.

Jim retired from General Motors in Lordstown in 1995 and was a member of the UAW. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing. Jim was also a skilled woodworker and won several awards for his entries in the Portage County Randolph Fair.

Jim is survived by his sons, James R. Jr., Doug, and daughter, Lisa (Joe Davis) Holland, as well as many loving nieces and nephews.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Nancy Montgomery; his son, Gary Dean Montgomery; his brothers, Ronald, Jack and Boyd Montgomery; and his sisters, Mabel McGinnis, Beryl Hovis and Beryle “Billie” Ivell.

Services with military honors will be held at 1 p.m. June 8, 2024, in Eau Claire Cemetery in Pennsylvania.

Jim’s family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to his next door neighbors, Ken and Jessie Bish, as well as his nieces, Deanne, Kim and Renee, for caring for Jim these past few years.
