Carl Blaze Varone 1937-2024

AUSTINTOWN — Carl Blaze Varone, 87, passed away peacefully, early Thursday morning, May 16, 2024, at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, following a lengthy illness.
Carl was born Feb. 3, 1937, in Youngstown, the beloved son of the late Joseph and Josephine Carella Varone, and was a lifelong area resident. He attended East High School and served in the Army Reserve, demonstrating his dedication to his country.
Carl dedicated over 20 years of service as an assembler and spot welder at General Motors Lordstown before his retirement. He also worked for Wean United and Ohio Chair during his career.
A devoted member of the former St. Stanislaus Church in Youngstown and a former member of Sacred Heart Church, Carl’s faith was a cornerstone of his life. He found joy in boating and bowling, and had a deep love for classic cars. An avid Green Bay Packers fan, Carl was also known for his “addiction” to his cell phone.
Carl is survived by his daughter, Sandee (Mike) Schlosser of Austintown, and many wonderful nieces, nephews and extended family members.
His wife of 57 years, Dolores J. Kwiecien Varone, whom he married April 23, 1960, died Jan. 3, 2018.
An infant daughter, Angela Varone; two brothers, Rocky Varone and Joe Varone; and a sister, Theresa Pesa, also preceded Carl in death.
Family and friends may call 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, May 23, 2024, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Road, Youngstown, where a funeral service will follow at 6 p.m.
Private interment will take place Friday in Calvary Cemetery in Youngstown, where Carl will be laid to rest beside his dear wife.
Carl’s family would like to thank the home healthcare aides for their kindness, compassionate care and concern during the past few years. The family would also like to thank and recognize the Area Agency on Aging for the wonderful care they provided.
