Ruth Hill 1936-2024

GIRARD — Ruth Hill, 88, a lifelong resident of Girard, peacefully passed away, Tuesday, April 16, 2024, at St. Claire Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pa.

She was born Feb. 19, 1936, in Youngstown.

Ruth worked as a bookkeeper for Basilica & National Shrine of Our Lady of Lebanon for many years. She was a member of First Christian Church in Girard, where she had been a lifetime member, was a past deacon and treasurer, and lent her voice to the choir. Her commitment to faith and community left a lasting impact on all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

In her youth, Ruth graduated from Girard High School in 1954 and was a cheerleader and senior prom queen. She made it a point to attend every class reunion thereafter. Her dedication to cherishing past memories and connecting with old friends spoke volumes about her compassionate nature and genuine interest in others.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Robert H. Hill, whom she married June 30, 1956 and who died Nov. 13, 2021; her sisters, Doris Baer and Edith O’Connell; and her brother, Howard Fritz.

Left to cherish Ruth’s memory are her loving daughters, Sherri Hill and Lori (Greg) Burrows, along with three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Ruth maintained strong bonds with her large extended family, with many nieces and nephews surviving her. Their lives have been enriched by Ruth’s love, wisdom and unwavering support throughout the years.

To honor and celebrate Ruth Hill’s remarkable life, a visitation will be held 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, April 21, 2024, at Blackstone Funeral Home in Girard. The funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. the following day, April 22, 2024, at the funeral home.

As we bid farewell to Ruth Hill, let us hold dear the memories of her kindness, devotion to family and community, and the beautiful legacy she leaves behind.

She will be laid to rest in Girard City Cemetery next to her husband.

The family suggests any memorial contributions be made to First Christian Church, 140 E. Broadway St., Girard, OH 44420, in memory of Ruth.
