Robert Klemm 1929-2024

TOPEKA, Kan. — Dr. Robert Klemm peacefully passed away Thursday, March 28, 2024.

Born in Youngstown, Mr. Klemm was the son of Louis Carl Klemm and May Elizabeth Folkwein. He was brother to Louis J. (Olive) Klemm, Warren (Vera) Klemm and Norma J. (William) Loupe; all of whom preceded him in death. He leaves behind several nieces, great-nieces and great-nephews, who will miss him dearly.

He was a longtime resident of Manhattan, Kansas, and was a professor of anatomy at Kansas State University. He received his doctorate in zoology from Southern Illinois University. He was a Korean War veteran, stationed in Tripoli. He served in the U.S. Air Force.

In retirement, Bob worked with Sunset Zoo as the inaugural director of conservation and research. He was part of the Kansas Paraguay Partners (KPP) and the Partners of the Americas. Through this partnership, he made several trips to Paraguay and was actively involved in developing and supporting zoological development there.

A world traveler, Bob was fluent in English, Spanish and German, and made several trips to Germany and throughout Europe, as well as safaris throughout Africa.
