Herbert E. Tabor Jr. 1951-2024

POLAND — Herbert Ellwood Tabor Jr., 72, passed away peacefully into eternal rest and surrounded by family, Saturday, April 6, 2024, at Hospice House, Poland.

He was born April 9, 1951, in Youngstown, the son of the late Herbert Ellwood Tabor Sr. and Eleen Elizabeth Bell Tabor.

Herbert married Sharon E. Kinney on June 2, 1986; they were together for 35 years until her death Nov. 18, 2021.

He was raised in New Springfield and graduated from Springfield Local High School in 1969. He retired in 2000 after a 30-year career at GM Lordstown, including 27 years as a union official for the UAW Local 1112.

He loved going to car shows and spending time with his family, especially at Claytor Lake, Virginia and at the Outer Banks and Florida.

Herb was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sharon; and his stepdaughter, Kimberly Rininger.

He is survived by his sons, Erik (Cortney) Tabor of North Lima and Ethan (Jacqueline) Tabor of Poland; stepdaughter, Kelly (Tom) Wogan of Nashport; stepson, Donald (Tammy) Sparks of Brunswick; sisters, Valarie (Jim) Smotrila of Leetonia and Shireen (William) Klim of Columbiana; 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 12:30 p.m., with calling hours from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Saturday, April 13, 2024, at the James Funeral Home, Newton Falls, with Pastor Kevin Crouch officiating.

Herb will be laid to rest next to his wife, Sharon, at a later date, in a private ceremony in Windham Township Cemetery, Windham.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the James Funeral Home, 8 E. Broad St., Newton Falls.
