Emily Harasyn 1930-2024

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. — Emily Harasyn, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, was brought home to her Heavenly Father on Thursday, March 14, 2024, at the age of 93.

She was born June 21, 1930, in Youngstown, to Robert and Janeva McSkimming.

Emily’s life was a testament to love, compassion, generosity and dedication to her family and community. She was a pillar of strength and kindness, deeply cherished by all who knew her. Emily’s legacy will forever live on through the countless lives she touched.

Emily was preceded in death by her adoring husband of 68 years, Nick; infant daughter, Pamela; and her siblings, Betty (Don) Ebaugh, Donna (Fred) Stone and Harris (Monica) McSkimming.

Emily is survived by her children, Jan (Mark) Beggs of Hollywood, Florida, and Richard (Kathryn) Harasyn of McDonald. She was a loving grandmother to Jodi Beggs (Alex) of Boston, Massachusetts, Mac (Renee) Harasyn of McDonald and Pamela Harasyn of Westerville. Her great-granddaughters, Adriana and Cadence Harasyn of McDonald, affectionately knew her as “G-G-Ma.”

Emily’s compassionate nature shone brightly throughout her career at the McSkimming family-owned nursing home. She dedicated herself to caring for the residents with unparalleled warmth and empathy, all while raising her own children, Jan and Ricky. Her tireless commitment to others was a testament to her unwavering character and boundless love.

In her lifetime, Emily found immense fulfillment in her role as a den mother for Boy Scouts and a troop leader for Girl Scouts, sharing these experiences with her own children. She had a special fondness for the Girl Scouts’ Dolly Derby events, where she fostered a sense of camaraderie and community among the young participants. She was a lifetime member of Highway Tabernacle Assembly of God in Youngstown and held her faith dear through daily Bible readings with her morning coffee. She was truly in her happy place when she was leading water aerobics classes for the residents of her condo complex and the “Snow Birds” vacationing in Florida.

Emily Harasyn’s life was a tapestry woven with love, selflessness and unwavering dedication to her family and community. Her gentle spirit and kind heart will be deeply missed but forever treasured by those who were fortunate enough to know her.

May her soul rest in eternal peace, surrounded by the love and light she brought into the world. Emily’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to have her touch their lives.
