Donald E. Barth Sr. 1933-2024

POLAND — Donald “Don” Edward Barth Sr., 90, passed away early Tuesday morning, April 9, 2024, at his home and surrounded by his family.

Don was born June 7, 1933, in Youngstown, a son of Edward and Edith Calvin Barth.

He graduated from Springfield High School and was a member of Gospel Baptist Church in Poland for over 50 years.

Don married his high school sweetheart, Katherine “Kay” Lipp, on July 16, 1954, at Struthers Baptist Tabernacle. Together they owned and operated Barth Farms, which originally began as a potato farm and grew into a thriving poultry farm. Barth Farms became a household name in the community until that era of the farm ended around 1994. Through Don’s longtime business partner Charles Barth and his family, the Barth Farms name continues operating today.

Don was known for his integrity and his love for the Lord. He served the Lord faithfully in his church. His generosity touched many lives both here in the community and around the world because of his faithful giving to the Lord’s work.

Next to Don’s love for God, he had a tremendous love for his family. His wife Kay was the love of his life. His children had a wonderful role model in their dad, and to this day express their thankfulness for his example of how to be a godly husband, father, friend and businessman. The Barth household was full of love, grace, fun and laughter. Many people have fond memories of time spent at the Barths.

Don leaves to carry out his legacy, a daughter, Mari Mangino and her husband, Mike of Edinburg, Pa.; three sons, Don Jr. and his wife, Debbie of Michigan; Paul and his wife, Cindy of Poland; and Bob and his wife, Sue of Poland; 16 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ruth Sheesley of Monroe, North Carolina.

He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents and his son, Phillip.

The family will receive friends 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, April 12, 2024, with the service immediately following at 1 p.m., at Gospel Baptist Church, 6235 Clingan Road, Poland, with Dr. Ron Royalty officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made in Don’s memory to the Hospice of the Valley, 979 Tibbetts Wick Road, Girard, OH 44420.

The Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home in Columbiana has been entrusted with the arrangements.
