Anthony C. ‘Tony’ Cario 1966-2024

GIRARD — Anthony C. “Tony” Cario, 57, passed away Tuesday afternoon, April 9, 2024, at University Hospital Cleveland, surrounded by his loving family.

Anthony was born Nov. 7, 1966, in Youngstown, the son of the late Ferdinando “Fred” and Romelia Perfette Cario, and was a lifelong area resident.

Tony graduated from Girard High School in 1985, continuing his academic journey to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in molecular genetics and conduct graduate research at The Ohio State University. Tony later attended Kent State University part-time while raising his children and obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in computer systems technology.

For the past 18 years, Tony worked at Direction Home of Eastern Ohio, most recently serving as chief operating officer. Tony dedicated himself to making a positive impact on the community, which brought him great fulfillment. He took immense pride in his team and their collective efforts to better the lives of those they served.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Tony found joy in various pastimes. He enjoyed playing cards and darts, and never needed much convincing to learn complex board games if it meant more quality time with his family. Tony had a passion for sports, proudly supporting The Ohio State Buckeyes and Cleveland Guardians. A dedicated father, he coached his children’s softball and baseball teams for many years, instilling in them his love for the game.

Tony’s greatest joy occurred when he was surrounded by loved ones. He treasured hosting family gatherings at his home, always finding new ways to hone his grilling and smoking skills through the latest gadgets and techniques. Tony cherished the countless memories made during family vacations and road trips. He was always ready to embark on a camper van adventure, loved relaxing on the beach where he enjoyed flying his colorful stunt kites, and relished exploring new places with family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Marne O’Malia, whom he married Sept. 5, 1992; his son, Benjamin Cario (Kelsey Snyder) of Columbus; his daughter, Gabriella Cario of Cincinnati; his sister, Roseann Cario of Girard; numerous nieces and nephews; many extended family members, and a multitude of friends. He loved them all dearly.

In Tony’s memory, let us carry forward his spirit of generosity, compassion and unwavering love for family and community. Though he may be gone, his legacy and wisdom will continue to shine brightly through the lives he touched.
