Thomas L. Linton Sr. 1943-2024

FREDONIA, Pa. — Thomas L. Linton Sr., 80, formerly a longtime resident of New Castle, Pa. and Marco Island, Florida, passed away peacefully with his beloved wife, Carlene, and cherished cat, Sable, at his side, early Friday morning, March 8, 2024, in Grove Manor, Grove City, Pa.

Mr. Linton was born March 30, 1943, in New Castle, son of the late Claude Wesley Linton and Helen Garratt Linton Evans, and graduated from New Castle High School in 1961.

A self-employed contractor and owner of Linton Piping and Construction, Tom specialized in industrial construction and completed jobs throughout Western Pennsylvania and the Tri-State area.

In Tom’s younger years, he was an avid racing enthusiast and particularly enjoyed racing ATVs, motorcycles and boats. He also had a deep appreciation for antique cars and restored a 1932 Buick street rod he loved driving.

Tom and his wife, Carlene, traveled extensively throughout the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, The Caribbean and The Bahamas. The two of them navigated their 50-foot trawler, “High Roller,” from their home on Marco Island to the Bahamas several times. Tom truly loved watching the sunsets.

For many years, Tom played in a bluegrass band. Bluegrass was his passion. He was very talented and played several musical instruments. Most recently, he attended a concert by his current favorite musician, Billy Strings, with his wife and children.

Later in life, Tom enjoyed going to casinos, gardening, fishing and working in his workshop, where he loved to tackle home improvement projects. He also was a very accomplished painter. His landscapes and still-life paintings will be treasured by the family.

He is survived by his loving wife and companion of 27 years, Carlene Giannini Linton, whom he married in October 1998.

Tom is also survived by a daughter, Tracey Mannozzi (Steve) of Mercer, Pa.; a son, Thomas Linton II (Michelle Micco) of Hermitage, Pa.; seven grandchildren, Cameron Linton (Ali), Daulton Linton, Payton Linton, JT Mannozzi (Kristen), Melissa Redinger (Will), Anna Tomeo (Tom) and Christopher Mannozzi (Stacy); six great-grandchildren, Sophie, Lyla, Ethan, Emma, Delaney and Zane; three brothers, Ken Linton (Alice), Ron Linton (Helene) and Patrick Linton (Melinda); two sisters, Claudia Linton (Bob) and Marion Linton; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by a brother, Ted Linton (Laura); and his mother-in-law, Carolyn Swierz Giannini.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Shenango Valley Animal Shelter, 2599 Broadway Rd., Hermitage, PA 16148; or St. Joseph The Provider School, 1145 Turin St., Youngstown, OH 44510.

In keeping with Tom’s wishes, a private family service will be held at a later date, with Rev. Michael Swierz, pastor of St. Patrick Church, Hubbard, as celebrant.
