Raymond M. Bayus 1935-2024

LAS VEGAS — Raymond Michael Bayus, 88, passed away Saturday, Feb. 24, 2024. He was loved very much by his family, friends and all those who knew him.

Raymond was the fourth oldest of eight sons of John and Edna Hromyak Bayus. Ray was born Feb. 28, 1935, in Campbell, and was a graduate of Campbell Memorial High School (1953). He was a proud Army veteran and loved to talk and tell stories of his time in the Army, including when he made the Army baseball team and traveled to play baseball in various cities while in Germany. Everyone’s favorite Army story was when Ray met Elvis Presley as they both were drafted and served our nation together in Germany.

After his service in the Army, Ray began his professional career as a firefighter in Boardman. Ray also worked in carpentry and construction and was a general contractor and homebuilder. He then would shortly take his professional careers to Florida, where he resided with his wife and daughter, Rae Ann, for most of his life.

He was a longtime firefighter and one of his prestigious jobs was working on the Space Shuttle Program at The Kennedy Space Center at Cape Canaveral. Ray was also an avid entrepreneur and constructed numerous homes, which he always took pride in doing. One of Raymond’s favorite hobbies was to go out in his boat and just “Go Shrimpin” off of the Florida Coast. Ray also enjoyed traveling the states in his recreational vehicle. In his later years, he moved to Las Vegas.

Raymond is survived by his daughter, Rae Ann Bayus Perez and her husband, Meir, of Las Vegas. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Jean, MaryAnn and Janet; and he will be dearly missed by his nephews, nieces and their children, all of whom adored and admired their “Uncle Ray” as well. Raymond also leaves behind neighbors and friends that span Nevada, Florida, Arizona and Ohio.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Bubba and Dedo; and all seven of his brothers, Andrew, John, Joseph, Edward, Paul, Thomas and James.

A private graveside service for Raymond has been prearranged, where he will be laid to rest next to his lifelong soulmate and wife, Marlene, at 11 a.m. Monday, March 11, 2024, at Palm Northwest Cemetery, 6701 N. Jones Blvd., Las Vegas, NV 89131.

The Bayus family appreciates your condolences and prayers.
