James E. Hoffman 1970-2024

BOARDMAN — James Eugene Hoffman, 53, lost his fight with cancer, Sunday, March 10, 2024.

He was born July 15, 1970, in Youngstown, the son of James Joseph and Sandra Lee Williams Hoffman. Jim was a 1988 graduate of Austintown Fitch High School and a 1993 graduate of Youngstown State University, earning a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.

He began his engineering days at Andover Industries as a quality engineer. When it closed, Jim became the plant manager of Mar-Bal Incorporated in Chagrin Falls. For the past 17 years, he was a principal engineer at Mine Safety Appliances in Cranberry, Pa.

On Oct. 14, 2023, he married Christina Lee Forrisi-Simpson, having been together for over 12 years. Jim valued his time with his family, hosting numerous holidays, poker games and watch parties. He enjoyed spending his weekends watching Penn State football and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Jim loved playing golf and holding his brand-new grandson, Carson. He was also known to have an occasional drink of Crown Royal while playing blackjack and hanging out with his family.

He was preceded in death by his beloved infant daughter, Alexis Marie Hoffman, and his grandparents.

Jim leaves behind his wife, Chris; children, Haley A. (John Calabrese) Hoffman, James J. (Kennedy Allen) Hoffman, both of Austintown, and Dale G. Simpson of Zelienople, Pa.; his parents, Sandra and James Hoffman of Austintown; grandson, Carson James Calabrese; two brothers, David (Shannon) Hoffman and Gary (Brandy) Hoffman, both of Austintown; his aunt, Nancy (James) Johnson of Austintown; a niece, Courtney; and two nephews, David and Rylen.

A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 16, 2024, at Davis-Becker Funeral Home, 8536 Market St., Boardman, OH 44512. Private burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Calling hours will be 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
