COLUMBIANA -- Clarice Mae Bates, 92, passed away Thursday morning, March 7, 2024, at Windsor House at St. Mary's Alzheimer's Center.
Clarice was born May 4, 1931, in Youngstown, a daughter of the late Bert and Estrid Anderson Johnson, and lived most of her life in this area. She graduated in 1948 from Wilson High School.
Clarice was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and the Vasa Lodge.
Clarice looked forward to trips to Jamestown, New York, camping with the family and fishing. She also enjoyed playing cards and belonged to a card club with girlfriends for 50 years.
Her husband of 64 years, Carl H. Bates, whom she married in 1951, passed away April 15, 2015.
She leaves her daughter, Carla Brant of Cleveland; her son, Mark Bates of Youngstown; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents and her husband, Clarice was preceded in death by her daughter, Janice Bates; and two brothers, Glen Johnson and Raymond Johnson.
There will be a memorial service at 1 p.m. Friday, March 15, 2024, at Lane Funeral Homes, Canfield Chapel, with calling one-half hour prior to the service.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the employees and caretakers at St. Mary's for their special care given to Clarice, and also for going above and beyond for her family.
