Willam E. Benedict Jr. 1936-2024

BESSEMER, Pa. — Willam E. Benedict Jr., affectionately known as Bill, passed away Thursday, Feb. 8, 2024, at the age of 87, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born May 11, 1936, in New Castle, Pa., to William E. Sr. and Jennie Benedict, he married his sweetheart, Irene Kachmer, on Sept. 1, 1962, marking the beginning of a nearly six-decade-long journey of love and companionship.

A loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, Willam’s legacy is woven into the hearts of those he touched. He is survived by his loving wife Irene; daughters, Jacqueline Tevis (Clyde) and Jennifer DePinto (Nick); sons, Rodney and David Benedict (Jodee); grandchildren, Anthony (Celene), Zachary (Ashley), Breanna, Nina, Alley (Cole) and David Jr.; as well as sisters, Kathy Tindall and Larue Vannatten.

Willam’s life was marked by his dedication to duty and honor as a member of the United States Air Force Reserve. His commitment to serving his country reflected his deep sense of patriotism and contributed to the collective defense of the nation.

Beyond his military service, Bill found joy in music and camaraderie as an active member of the Eintracht Singing Society and the Croatian Club. His passion for singing created lasting bonds and memories with friends and community members. A faithful member of St. Anthony / Christ the King Catholic Church, Bill’s spiritual journey was a cornerstone of his life, providing him with strength, solace and a sense of community.

Bill, a retired bricklayer from Youngstown Sheet and Tube / LTV, was a kind and gentle soul known for his warm heart, infectious smile and love for the outdoors. Whether tending to his garden, enjoying a peaceful day or relishing the beauty of nature, Bill found peace in the world around him.

His legacy lives on through the love and devotion he showered upon his family. Bill’s presence was a source of comfort, guidance and unwavering support. His wisdom, generosity and sense of humor will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A visitation will be held 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16, 2023, at Terry Cunningham Funeral Home in Bessemer, Pa., and a funeral at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 17, 2024, at the same location.
