Thomas E. Fizet 1949-2024

PALMYRA TOWNSHIP — “I went for a walk today.”

Thomas E. Fizet, 74, passed away suddenly, Monday, Feb 5, 2024, in Newton Falls.

He was born May 7, 1949, in Warren. Thomas is the son of the late Stephen J. Fizet Sr. and Mary A. Remish Fizet. Tom has lived in Palmyra Township since 1978 and was formerly of Niles, where he graduated from Niles McKinley High School in the Class of 1968. Tom married the love of his life, Marijo A. Sharp, on Aug. 23, 1969. They enjoyed the past 54 years of marriage together.

He worked as a body shop foreman (dingman) at General Motors Lordstown for over 30 years, retiring in 1998. Tom loved traveling in his motor home, fishing, going to NASCAR races in Indianapolis, working in his garage and restoring his three antique cars. He is a member of UAW #1112 and the Christian volunteer group, SOWER Ministry (Servants On Wheels Ever Ready).

Tom was preceded in death by his parents.

Tom is survived by one daughter, Tamara and Gary Tennefoss of North Benton; one son, Marc and Susan Fizet of Rootstown; two brothers, Stephen and Sue Fizet Jr. of McDonald, and Kevin and Helen Jo Fizet of McDonald; two grandchildren, Olivia and Gracie Fizet; and many nieces and nephews.

Per Tom’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life service will be at 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 12, 2024, at First Baptist Church, 2640 S. Canal St., Newton Falls, OH 44444, with Pastor Steve Spurlock officiating. The family will receive friends for calling hours, at the church, from 4 to 6 p.m.
