Sylvia J. Edwards 1935-2024

POLAND — Sylvia Jean Martin Edwards passed away peacefully in her sleep, Monday, Feb. 19, 2024, at the age of 88.

Sylvia is survived by her five children, Diana Kennedy (Bill), Karen Wolfe (Ray), Tracy Briden, Thomas Edwards and Natalia Jamison (Tim). A tremendous source of pride and joy was being Gram to her 14 grandkids (and spouses) and GG to her 23 great-grandkids. Sylia’s siblings are Chuck Martin (Judy) and Joyce Jenkins, and their families who loved their Aunt Syl. She was preceded in death by many friends and longtime companions, Russ Kuhn and Milton Scales.

Born in 1935 and raised in Butler, Pa., Sylvia graduated from Winfield High School in 1953. She married Thomas Edwards in 1955. While married, she owned and operated Tommy’s Drive Inn. Her years of cooking at the restaurant provided many years of signature dishes enjoyed by her family at every family event. Upon moving her family to Ohio, she was a school bus driver at South Range High School. After being on the bus, Sylvia, “Ramblin Rose,” transitioned to a long-haul truck driver for US Express for 20 years. During her time on the truck, she went all over the United States and saw many things. She loved being in California for the annual Rose Parade and enjoyed taking family members on trucking trips with her.

Sylvia, who refused to retire, was currently employed full-time as a financial administrator at ISLE (Purple Cat). She loved being a part of the Iron & String community and was very grateful for all of their support over the last 20 years.

Her active social life included attending her great-grandkids’ sporting events, weekly Weight Watcher meetings, Pool Pal dinners, Steelers game tailgating, participating in 5Ks such as the Panerathon and maximizing $1 cone day at Handel’s.

Sylvia will be remembered for her tremendous work ethic, dedication to her family, never-ending sense of adventure, devotion to her faith, love of NASCAR and joy of classic country music.

Calling hours will be held 4 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, at Davis-Becker Funeral Home, 8536 Market St., Boardman OH 44512, with funeral services immediately following.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Purple Cat Gabba Camp, 32 Fifth Ave., Youngstown, OH 44503.
