Rachel J. Ramsey 1940-2024

She was born Dec. 9, 1940, in Youngstown, to the late Benjamin Sr. and Esther Johnson Kaster.

She graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School and then went to Anderson University, where she earned her bachelor’s degree and her master’s degree in social work from University of Southern Indiana.

She was a nurse and social worker in the community for 34 years and retired in 2018.

She was a member of Cross Roads Global Methodist Church, where she loved attending. She was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling. She was a volunteer at Primrose Retirement Community for many years. She loved her family and especially her grandchildren.

She is survived by her three children, Scot (Xin), Cindy and Shawn; two sisters, Karen and Esther; three grandchildren, Honor (Jason), Noah and Riley; four great-grandchildren, Norah, Silas, Sawyer and Miles; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, David Ramsey in 2018; two sisters, Donna and Kaye; and two brothers, David and Benjamin Jr.

A funeral service will be 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 1, 2024, at Cross Roads Global Methodist Church, with Chaplin Rob Mifflin officiating. A nurse’s honor guard service will begin the service.

Visitation will be 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday at the church.

Burial will take place at a later date in East Maplewood Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be given to Cross Roads Global Methodist Church or The Hopewell Center.
