Joseph A. Warino 1928-2024

Joe will always be remembered for his outgoing personality, sense of humor, quick wit and smile.

He was born Feb. 7, 1928, in Youngstown, the son of James and Philomena “Fannie” Green Warino, and was a lifelong area resident.

Joe was proud of his Italian heritage and growing up on the East Side, where he graduated from East High School as a “Golden Bear.” He then proudly served our country in the United States Army during World War II, earning the rank of Tech 5. Joe was stationed both stateside and overseas in Japan for several months, and while there, he met a beautiful young Army woman named Doris D. Copp, who was also stationed overseas. Joe was awarded the World War II Victory Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal Japan for his service. Upon receiving an honorable discharge on Nov. 2, 1947, Joe returned home and was reunited with Doris, who became the love of his life. They were married Aug. 12, 1950, and spent over 58 wonderful years together until her passing Sept. 24, 2008.

Joe attended Youngstown College before having a lengthy career as an insurance agent and retiring from the Prudential Insurance Company.

He was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Church and the VFW Post 8841.

Joe enjoyed socializing daily at the Southern Park Mall with all his friends, who called him “Handsome Joe,” and was an avid golfer.

Joe leaves behind to hold onto his memories, his two sons, Gary (Shellie) Warino of Mineral Ridge and Joseph V. (Linda) Warino, with whom he made his home; his seven grandchildren, Greg (Jennifer) Warino, Stacie (Steve) Juart, Rachael Warino, Joseph A. (Jennifer) Warino, Charles T. (Stephanie) Warino, Dr. Lindsey A. (Dustin) Dohse and Emily (John) Moran; and 13 great-grandchildren; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Besides his parents and wife, Joe was preceded in death by his brothers, Nicholas, Morris and James Warino; and sisters, Mary Gianoglio, Phyllis Romeo and Rose Liguore.

Family and friends may pay their respects 11 to 11:50 a.m. Monday, Feb. 12, 2024, in the chapel of St. Charles Borromeo Church, 7345 Westview Drive, Boardman, where a funeral Mass will follow at noon, with the very Rev. Monsignor John Zuraw J.C.L., V.G. as celebrant.

Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Austintown, with military honors provided by the great men and women of the United States Army.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the professional care of the Ross & Santucci Funeral Home, 4221 Market St., Boardman.

On behalf of Joseph’s family, they would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the entire staff of Hospice House for all the care and compassion shown to them and to Joseph at this difficult time.
