John C. Weaver 1935-2024

Known as “Jack” to all who knew and loved him, he was born Jan. 20, 1935, in Youngstown. He was the youngest son of Earl and Catherine Clark Weaver, and was a lifelong area resident. He enjoyed spending the winter months at his Delray Beach, Florida, home of over 40 years.

Jack graduated from Ursuline High School in 1953 and went on to serve in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. Jack grew up in the Roman Catholic Church, serving as an altar boy for many years, and was a member of St. Michael Parish in Canfield.

Never losing touch with his Ursuline friends, Jack and his wife Pat, formerly Patricia A. Midland, also of Youngstown, enjoyed yearly get-togethers, many of which took place at his Canfield home. Not to be outdone by any of his children, these parties would go on through the wee hours of the morning, most times blaring karaoke, which all of them, and the neighbors, could hear.

Jack had the gift of gab and became fast friends with everyone he met. He could talk to anyone about anything. Jack retired from Patio Doors Inc., a business he started with his brother “Bud,” and then opened a new business in Austintown with his childhood best friend, Tom Rochford. Together, they ran The Meating Place for 35 years. Jack was a hard worker, even through this past fall. He could always be found on his beloved Ford 8N tractor or his backhoe, “Old Blue.” When he wasn’t working, he was fixing things “Jack’s way” and teaching his grandkids how to be a handyman, cut the grass and drive a tractor.

Jack enjoyed much-earned breaks throughout these work-filled days, enjoying daily cocktail hours at 2 and 5 p.m., with a cold beer, red wine or Old Crow Whiskey.

Jack was an avid sportsman. He loved both watching and playing football and basketball, and played the latter weekly on Friday nights until he was 58. He enjoyed the camaraderie and stylish short basketball shots the most. He always looked forward to a game of golf or fishing, and especially enjoyed spending time with any one of his 20-plus grandchildren or great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by the love of his life of more than 66 years, Patricia Weaver, whom he married March 2, 1957, and grew a family until her death, April 13, 2023.

Jack leaves behind many things, and at the top of the list is his beloved dog, Macie. He also leaves five sons and one daughter: John C. Weaver Jr. of Johnson City, Tennessee, Ronald (Jodi) Weaver of Ellsworth, James (Corrine) Weaver of Austintown, Michael (Andrea) Weaver of Canfield, Kevin Weaver of Austintown and Trish Weaver-Rhodes of Boca Raton, Florida.

In addition to his parents and beloved wife, Jack was preceded in death by his five siblings: Luana M. Jarvis, Marjorie E. Hutcheson, Dolores A. Marmagin, Kathleen L. Brownlie and Earl “Bud” W. Weaver.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Akeso Home Hospice, 3000 Belmont Ave., Youngstown, OH 44505. Their amazing staff went above and beyond caring for Jack, as they do for all of their patients receiving end-of-life care.

There will be an 11 a.m. celebration of life service to honor and remember both Jack and Pat on Saturday, Feb. 17, 2024, at Greenford Christian Church, 11767 Lisbon Road, Greenford, OH 44422.
