Rodney R. Payne Jr. 1959-2023

Born March 18, 1959, son of Rodney and Sally Payne, he graduated from Canfield High School in 1977.

Rodney was most proud of his Navy service in the submarine corps from 1980 to 1986. After leaving the Navy, he worked for a variety of defense contractors in California, Arizona and Texas. His last job was with a telecommunications company as an electronics engineer.

Rodney loved VFW Post 4011 in Greenville, Texas, where he lived for over 20 years. He returned to the Valley in 2019 to be closer to family.

His hobbies included photography, drawing, wood carving and weekends at the range. “Junior” loved sharing his stories with any who would listen, off -label music and hearty banter.

Rodney will be missed by his son, Carl Payne of Grafton, Wisconsin; mother, Sally Payne of Canfield; brother and sister-in-law, Kevin (Jacqueline); nieces, Chynella and Shantell of Boardman; and brother and sister-in-law, Jeffery (Mary) of Youngstown.

Calling hours will be 12:30 to 1 p.m., Sunday, Dec 17, 2023, at Canfield Christian Church, with a service to follow at 1:05 p.m. Join us in fellowship for a light lunch afterward.
