James ‘Curt’ Callahan 1926-2023

WACONIA, Minn. — James Curtis “Curt ” Callahan, 97, formerly of Youngstown, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2023.

Curt was born in Brookfield and spent most of his life in Ohio before moving to Minnesota in 2021. He attended South High School, earning his diploma in 1944. He attended Iowa State University, Wisconsin University in Madsion, Bethany College in West Virginia and Ohio Wesleyan University, eventually graduating from Youngstown State University in 1950.

He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1944, served during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1946.

Curt felt fortunate to be employed with General Fireproofing for 30 years, retiring in 1981.

While at GF, he met Alice DelBene, whom he married in 1954. Alice and Curt enjoyed 59 years together until her passing in 2013. During their time together, they welcomed three children, David, Nancy and Paul.

Curt spent his retirement years traveling the world with Alice, spending time with his kids, and enriching his knowledge base by reading books on psychology, astronomy and religious philosophy.

Curt leaves behind his children, David (Teri) Callahan, Nancy (Christopher) Schulz and Paul (Anne) Callahan; and grandson, Richard Callahan.

A private family service will be held in 2024.
