Rose Katz Averbach 1926-2023

BEACHWOOD — Rose Katz Averbach, 97, died Thursday, Nov. 9, 2023, at Menorah Park in Beachwood.

Rose was born Jan. 3, 1926, in Youngstown, the daughter of Albert and Mary Kranitz Lockshin. After graduating from The Rayen School, Rose attended the Youngstown College of Business.

She was a strong, independent career woman who achieved much during her lifetime. Her success includes owning Miss Coed, a shop on the campus of YSU. Rose was also a Youngstown area realtor for over 30 years, acting as the sales manager at Northern Hills Realty for 20 years. She was also a member of the Youngstown and Ohio Board of Realtors, qualifying for their esteemed membership into the Million Dollar Club.

Rose was an active member of the community who contributed in many ways. These include membership at Temple El Emeth and Congregation Rodef Sholom (now Ohev Beth Sholom). Rose was also an active member of Rodef Sholom Sisterhood, and proudly served as president. She was also past president of B’nai Brith Women and its bowling league and was a member of Hadassah. Rose was the proud matriarch of a loving family, to which she dedicated her life.

She was preceded in death by the love of her life, grandson Jared H. Miller; and her beloved husband, Marc Katz, whom she married in 1947 and who passed away in 1986. Rose then married Abe Averbach in 1990, who passed away in 2008.

Rose leaves behind her loving family: her daughters, Sheryl (Harris) Roth and Judi (Jeff) Likover; her five grandsons, Ryan (Jess) Miller, Marc (Julie) Miller, Jordan (Jenny) Likover, Jason Likover and Jonah Likover; her two great-grandchildren, Max Jared Miller and Maya Rose Miller; and a granddaughter-in-law, Cindy Miller.

Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 12, 2023, in Rodef Sholom Cemetery Chapel at Tod Homestead Cemetery, 2200 Belmont Ave., Youngstown.
