Show explores Dark art
Dark on Park is one of multiple art options in downtown Warren on Saturday.
The annual show devoted to the bizarre, the strange, the surreal and the scary will be on display from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday at Art on Park, 180 N. Park Ave. The range of work includes moving sculptures, found object assemblage, mixed media, glass work, fiber arts and works in metal and clay as well as paint, ink and photography.
Participating artists in the nonjuried exhibition curated by Dovey Wuvey include James Shuttic, Rachel E. Hathhorn, Samandra Lynne, Elliott Lengel, Alex Infante, Johnathan Ruple, Jackie Bader, James Newsom Jr., Matthew Snow, Shannon Fee, Lynne Provance, Jersey Hogue, Apryle Elizabeth, Carmen Denno, April Mohn, Gary W. Barnes, Rindi Hanna, Jim Young, Beth Carson, George Nelson, Michele Coe, Josh Kronauer, Air C Images, Wanda Stewart, Susan Jacobs, Justin DuBois, Frank Maggiano, Nef M., Rhonda Smith, Bonnie Loomis, Rebecca Bender, Jacqueline Vouvounas, Pete Vouvounas, Valerie Schneider, Shannon Black Newman, Mark Cappabianco, Mathew Felter, Jessica King, Sara Lee and a posthumous submission by Karen Fry.
Art on Park also will feature a solo window display of the sculptures of Pete Vouvounas and a UV / Blacklight art show in its back hallway. The evening will include live synthesizer music by Jon Brewer, performing as Juan Dale, as well as light refreshments and open studios.
Admission is free and attendees are encouraged to come in costume. Due to the theme of the show, some of the work may be considered disturbing to some viewers.
Also opening Saturday is an exhibition by Warren artists Carl Henneman and James Shuttic that runs from 6 to 9:30 p.m. Shuttic’s work primarily will be displayed at Art on Park while Henneman’s work will be shown at Urban Tap, 439 E. Market St., Warren. Admission is free.
