Naomi Fine 1926-2023

Naomi was born July 2, 1926, in Pittsburgh, Pa., the only daughter of Jenny and William Stern.

She was preceded in death by her loving daughter, Maxine; and her beloved husband, Samuel P. Fine, with whom she spent a 75-year beloved romance — a love affair for the ages.

She is survived by son, Alan; granddaughter, Jen; grandsons, Adam and Jared; as well as countless nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and many, many friends.

Naomi lived in Youngstown most of her life. She graduated from South High School in 1944. She went on to work as an office manager for Drs. Herman Ipp and Bruce Lipton for the next 50 years.

Naomi was a member of Temple Anshe Emeth and El Emeth. She was also a member of Hadassah, Pioneer Women and Bnai Brith, and in 1966, she was president of the Anshe Emeth Sisterhood. Naomi was also a member of the board of directors of the symphony guild, serving as membership chairman.

She played golf with the Jewish Community Center League and bowled with the Pioneer Women and Hadassah. Her active association with Temple Anshe Emeth and El Emeth spanned over 65 years. She served as head of catering at both temples for decades, producing absolutely beautiful dinners for bar and bat Mitzvahs, weddings and holiday affairs.

Naomi had a passion for cooking, and during her lifetime, amassed a significant collection of old-world cookbooks and recipes from the 19th and 20th centuries. She and her cherished recipes were featured regularly in The Youngstown Vindicator, as well as in the sisterhood and family cookbooks.

Truly a woman of selfless caring and sacrifices, Naomi will be mourned by countless family and friends.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 29, 2023, at the Itts Memorial Chapel of Temple Anshe Emeth Cemetery, 588 Granada Ave., Youngstown, OH 44505.

Friends and family may call a half hour prior to the service at the cemetery chapel.
