Benjamin A. Quail 1959-2023
GARDENA, Calif. — Mr. Benjamin Alexander Quail, 64, departed this life Sunday, July 30, 2023, after a lengthy illness.
Mr. Quail was born Feb. 15, 1959, in Youngstown, the youngest son of Mary and Joseph Alexander Quail. He grew up on the North Side of Youngstown and graduated from The Rayen School in 1977.
After graduation, Benjamin joined the Navy and was trained as a radioman. He often fondly recalled that the Navy enabled him to travel the world. When he left the service, he relocated to the Los Angeles area, where he lived the remainder of his life.
Before developing physical disabilities, Benjamin worked for several years as lead domestic engineer at a casino in the Los Angeles area. An avid sports fan, he enjoyed following the L.A. Dodgers and the L.A. Lakers. He had a keen interest in history and also enjoyed watching a good Western.
He will be greatly missed by his son, Benjamin II; and granddaughter, Seanna. He also leaves to cherish his memory, his siblings, Victor (Sandra) Quail, Ruth (George) Faber, Cedric (Anita) Quail, Diane Jon Ming, Thomas Cox, Margaret (Randyll) Floyd, Phyliss Quail, Alma Quail and Kevin (Marilyn) Quail; a host of nieces and nephews; and longtime partner, Kim Murphy.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Carole Robinson.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 24, 2023, at Halverson, Stone and Myers Mortuary, 1223 Cravens Ave., Torrance,CA 90501.
The family will gather for a private interment at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 28, 2023, at Tod Homestead Cemetery in Youngstown.
