Richard J. Watts 1947-2023

Richard was born March 8, 1947, in Youngstown, a son of the late Luke and Antoinette Christopher Watts, and was a lifelong area resident.

He was a 1965 graduate of Girard High School and proudly served in the United States Army, 1st Air Cavalry in Vietnam, and received three Purple Hearts.

Rich worked for the City of Girard in multiple capacities for many years.

He greatly enjoyed visiting Geneva-on-the-Lake, and in his younger days, Richard enjoyed coaching youth sports. Most of all, Richard enjoyed the time he spent with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Richard leaves to forever cherish his memory his son, Christopher (Jen) Watts of Girard; his daughter, Erin (Timothy) Mazzella of Girard; five grandchildren, Ashley (Marco) Comichista, Nichol Mazzella (Jalen), Ryan Mazzella, Zachary Mazzella and Nikolas Mazzella; six great-grandchildren, Peyton, Charlotte, Milina, Ryleigh, Aubrie and Alivia; and three great-grandchildren “on the way;” a sister-in-law, Renee Watts of Girard; his girlfriend, Colleen George of Liberty Township; two sisters, Janice (Pete) Debvec and Kathleen Kocan; and many nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Richard will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Two brothers, Thomas and Martin Watts; and a sister-in-law, Debbie Watts, preceded Richard in death.

Per Richard’s request, there will be no calling hours or services.

Richard’s family would like to extend a heartfelt and sincere thank you to the nurses and staff of Patriot Home Health Care and to Greg Davis, for their kindness shown and compassionate care given to Richard and his family.
