NORTH LIMA --Paul Edwin Johnson, 92, peacefully passed on Monday, June 26, 2023, at his residence.
He was born Aug. 7, 1930, in Youngstown, the son of Lewis and Olive Pearson Johnson.
Paul proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was stationed in Alaska. He attended The Ohio State University and was later employed as an engineer at Ameritech, from where he retired in 1986. He was an active member of the Beaver Ruritan in North Lima, where you could find him passionately frying fish for their annual fish fry or serving up milkshakes at the Canfield Fair.
Paul was a member of Paradise Church in Canfield since 1958, where he contributed to the church choir, served as an elder, deacon and a custodian for 25 years. Because of which, he was known within his family to lead everyone in prayer at gatherings.
Being an avid fisherman, he was a member of Redbrook Boat Club in Ashtabula for many decades. He supported their chili cook offs, steak frys, and pig roasts.
The things Paul loved to do the most were fishing, gardening, and being with his grandkids and great-grandkids. In his younger years, he enjoyed woodworking. His last full day of life was able to be celebrated with a boat ride on Lake Erie with his closest friends and family, where he even commented he had never seen the lake so smooth.
Cherished memories of Paul will be carried on by his wife of 71 years, Donna (Allison); daughter, Paula (Rick) Skrinyer; granddaughters, Kristin (Trace) Baum, Kelly (Joe) Leson and Stehpanie Johnson; and grandsons, Paul and Rick Johnson; as well as great-grandchildren, Trey and Paige Baum, and Tessa and Colton Leson; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding Paul in death were his sister, Viola Matak; brother, Harry Johnson; son, Roger Johnson; and infant daughters, Susan Lynn and Sally Lou.
Family and friends may call from 10 a.m. to noon Friday, June 30, 2023, at Paradise Church, 10020 New Buffalo Road, with a service to follow at noon. Paul will be laid to rest in Paradise Church Cemetery.
Arrangements were entrusted to the Bernard P. Borowski Memorial Home in Newton Falls.
