YOUNGSTOWN -- Dr. Carol Sacherman, mother of three, loving wife, psychologist, nature lover and supporter of the arts, passed away Wednesday, June 21, 2023, at 93 years of age.
Carol grew up in Cleveland. After college, she made her home in Youngstown, where her husband, Robert Sacherman, DDS, had just started his dental practice. After raising three children, Carol returned to school and received a doctorate in psychology at Kent State. She found her next phase of life as a clinical psychologist and a psychology professor to be deeply rewarding.
Carol was part of charitable and political organizations, including the Ohio Democrats, the League of Women Voters, the ACLU, and Children and Family Services. She loved attending events at the Butler Institute of American Art, the local symphony, ballet and theater performances, and her book club. In her later years, Carol maintained her love of learning, auditing Shakespeare, poetry and music courses at YSU. Carol trained as a Master Gardener at Fellows Riverside Gardens, where she did volunteer work. Each of Carol's rich experiences connected her to wonderful people who became valued friends. Her best friend though, was undoubtedly her husband, Bob, with whom she had many grand adventures, including camping and travels, before he died in 2015.
She leaves behind three children, Josie, Jill and Jim; grandchildren, Kyeen, Luke, Kevin, Benjamin and Lillian; great-grandchildren, Amelia and Alexis; and nephew and nieces, Dan Colbert, Pam Sacherman and Carey Sacherman Kurtz.
There are no services, but a celebration of Carol's life will be arranged for a later date.
