NEW MIDDLETOWN — Robert L. Kerr, 77, passed away peacefully with his family at his side, Friday, April 28, 2023, at his residence.

Bob was born June 8, 1945, in Youngstown, a son of Harry and Grace Cardwell Kerr. A lifelong resident of Poland, Bob moved to New Middletown seven years ago.

A graduate of Poland Seminary High School, Class of 1963, Bob went on to pursue his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Youngstown State University. While attending college, Bob worked at Listorti’s Golden Dawn in Struthers. There he met the love of his life, Sandy Auman, and they were married Oct. 10, 1970.

In 1968, Bob began his engineering career at Wean United, where he served for 25 years. He went on to work for Roman Bradford in East Palestine and retired from Butech Bliss in Salem in 2015.

Bob was a member of Poland United Methodist Church, where he was a trustee and served on the Finance and Pastor Parish committee.

A Corvette enthusiast, Bob loved driving his 2008 white Corvette that was his dream come true since his early 20s. Also a model railroader, Bob enjoyed spending his time setting up train layouts. Bob was a loyal fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes and was an avid follower of NASCAR. He and Sandy enjoyed traveling out West, cruising and wintering in Cape Coral, Fla.

Family was Bob’s first priority and greatest love. He was his grandchildren’s greatest fan, always being present for their extracurricular activities and sporting events, and cheering them on for flag football, baseball, softball and cross country. Bob was a wonderful provider, husband, father and “Papa.” He will be sadly missed, but always remembered for his good-natured teasing, kindness and love.

Bob leaves his wife of 52 years, Sandy, who affectionately called him “Chief;” two children, Rob (Angela) Kerr of Marysville and Kim (Josh) Aikens of Poland; two grandchildren, Jonathen and Kerstin Aikens; and step-grandchildren, Lizzy and Austin.

In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his sister, Marilyn Keatley.

Bob’s final resting place will be in Poland Riverside Cemetery, here his family is planning a private service honoring his life.

Bob loved his country and was proud of the servicemen and women and first responders who serve and protect our great nation. His family requests any gifts take the form of contributions to one his favorite charities, Tunnels to Towers Foundation, t2t.org.
