STRUTHERS — Margaret Jane Ziobert, 98, passed away peacefully with her family at her side, early Wednesday morning, May 3, 2023, at Hospice of the Valley, Hospice House.
Margaret was born June 27, 1924, in Youngstown, a daughter of Andy and Leondina Parno Tisone.
Raised in Youngstown, Margaret attended East High School. In her junior year, Margaret left school to assist in the war efforts of World War II and to contribute financially to her family at home. She was employed at Rubber Works as an assembly line worker and continued to work there for 12 years.
On Aug. 19, 1945, she married Andrew John Ziobert and they made their home in Youngstown. In 1947, their first daughter, Marjorie, was born and Margaret continued to work at Rubber Works, as well as being a homemaker for her husband and daughter. In 1953, they moved to Struthers, and in 1956, Margaret gave birth to their second child, Andrew. Margaret made a wonderful home for her family and in 1965, joyfully welcomed their third child, Sherry. In the early 1980s, Margaret went back to work as a janitorial tech for Struthers City Schools, while taking care of her husband and family. At the age of 85, Margaret retired in 2009.
Margaret was an active member of Christ Our Savior Parish at St. Nicholas Church in Struthers, where she was involved in many activities. Her hobbies were ceramics, cooking and baking, and she was especially known for her kolachi and pizzelles.
Margaret truly exemplified “The Greatest Generation.” She will be remembered for her strong work ethic and her great pride. Margaret never asked for anything, but always provided for her family, her friends and her community.
Her husband, Andrew, died Aug. 20, 1987, after 42 years of marriage.
Margaret leaves her three children, Marjorie (Chuck Campbell) Diorio of Struthers, Sherry (Joe) Oravitz of Poland and Andrew “Sonny” (Olga) Ziobert of North Jackson; sister, Antoinette “Nikki” Martino of Boardman; three grandchildren, Patrick (Margarita) Diorio of Hubbard, Paul (Deyhna) Diorio Sr. of Highland Heights and Andy Ziobert of Hubbard; and four great-grandchildren, Paul Jr., Dakari, Deylen and Sophia Marie Diorio.
