Lydia E. Vazquez 1936-2023

DONALSONVILLE, Ga. — Lydia E. Vazquez, 86, passed away Monday, May 15, 2023, at Flowers Hospital in Dothan, Ala.

Lydia was born June 18, 1936, in New York City, the youngest child of the Rev. Herminio and Mercedes Vasquez Quiroga. She was a longtime Campbell resident and longtime member of First Spanish Baptist Church, where she was very active with youth and music ministries. She graduated from Campbell Memorial High School and earned her LPN license. She was a member of Iron City Baptist Church.

Lydia married Rafael Vazquez on June 18, 1955, at First Spanish Baptist Church, and enjoyed a faith-filled and loving union for more than 67 years. Together they raised their family in Campbell, and later retired to Orlando, Fla., Morovis, Puerto Rico and Donalsonville, Ga.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Benjamin (Maryellen) and Yvette; sister, Priscilla Jenkins; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, who lovingly called her “Tia;” cousins, church family and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Mimi, Carmen and Junior.

Services were held at Iron City Baptist Church on Friday, May 19, 2023.
