SCOTTDALE, Pa. -- Genvieve Moritz, 96, of Scottdale, formerly of Youngstown, passed away Tuesday, May 9, 2023, surrounded by her family.
Genvieve was born Feb. 24, 1927, in Youngstown, a daughter of John and Anne Checkel Shirock. Until 2007, she lived in Youngstown. For the last 16 years she made her home with her daughter, Kathy, and her husband, Bill.
She married John Moritz, on May 22, 1954. John passed away Feb. 7, 1985. She and her husband owned Moritz Masonry Company and were owners of 18 race horses at the then Waterford Race Track, an activity they both enjoyed.
Besides being a wonderful baker, Gen was a Girl Scout troop leader, served on Easter Seal committees, winner of the Tony Vivo Award for Volunteering (Easter Seals), played weekly card games with friends, enjoyed family game nights and continued playing online games (always winning) until two weeks before she died.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter, Kathleen (Bill) Hanson (her devoted caregivers) of Scottdale, Pa.; her sons, David Moritz of Englewood, Fla. and Richard (Pam Mora) Moritz of Youngstown; and a sister, Carmel Shirock Bianco of Youngstown.
