Joseph Goldberg 1937-2023

LOS ANGELES — Joseph “Joe” Goldberg, 85, passed away in West Hills, Calif., on Friday, March 24, 2023. He was born in Youngstown on June 26, 1937, graduated from The Rayen School in 1955 and attended Youngstown State University. He was the son of Benjamin and Mary Elizabeth Goldberg and grew up on the North Side of Youngstown with brothers Irving, Norman and Meyer.

Joe went on to start his career as a general contractor and real estate broker. In his first year, he bought and refurbished over 100 properties from HUD, and went on to buy and manage commercial and multifamily properties throughout the Youngstown area. Joe created one of the first home warranty protection plans, marketed through real estate brokers. He served as president of the Youngstown Area Board of Realtors and was named “Realtor of the Year,” vice president of the Better Business Bureau, president of the Northside Kiwanis Club, and active in the Mahoning Valley Chamber of Commerce.

Joe relocated his family to Bell Canyon, Calif., in 1978 and was vice president of Standard Planning Corporation, a national insurance marketing company with over 5,000 licensed agents. Joe was a real estate broker in California since 1982, listing and selling hundreds of businesses, and was with Sunbelt Business Brokers from 2000 to 2022, when he retired. He was a member of the International Business Brokers Association, California Business Brokers Association, as well as a member of the National Association of Realtors.

Joe leaves his wife of 54 years, Lee Goldberg of Bell Canyon, Calif.; daughters, Davene Peruzzini of Scottsdale, Ariz. and Liane Goldberg of Bell Canyon, Calif.; brother, Irving Goldberg of Encino, Calif.; granddaughter, Nicole (Chad) Marston of Phoenix, Ariz.; and nieces, nephews and lifelong friends. All will miss his jovial and fun personality, and love of family and friends.
