Catalina Diaz 1934-2023
CAMPBELL — Catalina Diaz, 88, passed away peacefully, Monday, March 20, 2023, while under hospice care and while living at her loving daughter and loving son-in-law Gladys and Johnny Colon’s home in Campbell, .
Born March 23, 1934, in Lares, Puerto Rico, Catalina lived there until her mother, six sisters and two brothers moved to Lorain in search of the American dream.
She eventually moved to Campbell, and on May 25, 1956, she married the love of her life, Edubije “Louie” Diaz, who worked at Youngstown Sheet and Tube until health issues forced his early retirement.
Following her marriage, Catalina gave birth to three children, Jim, Luis (Veto) and Gladys, all raised in Campbell, where she remained for the rest of her life. Catalina was also a loving and caring grandmother, a great-grandmother, and cherished her wonderful lifelong friendships with family, friends and neighbors.
Catalina once worked for Little Forest Medical Center, where she was known as the “The Good Samaritan,” because of her love and compassion for patients. She always went out of her way to make them feel special, something her close friends and family also experienced.
Catalina is survived by her son, Jim (Diana) Diaz of Parrish, Fla.; a daughter, Gladys (Johnny) Colon of Campbell; her grandchildren, Anthony, Kimberly, Alysia, Melissa, Megan, Matthew and Madelyn; her great-grandchildren, Sawyer, Bennett, Ryel, Braelyn, Penelope “Penny” Mae and Maxwell “Max” Oliver.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Edubije “Louie” Diaz; her loving son, Luis (Vito) Diaz; and her loving and faithful companion, her dog, Molly.
“Our family is at peace as we believe the Lord has taken Catalina into his arms when she was ready to join her husband, son, her dog, Molly, and other dear family members and friends.”

The family will receive relatives and friends from 11 a.m. until noon Monday, March 27, 2023, with a noon funeral service, at the Rossi Brothers and Lellio Funeral Home, 4442 South Avenue in Boardman.
