PICKERINGTON -- Michael H. Kottar, 87, formerly of Austintown, died Monday, Dec. 5, 2022, at Violet Health Springs Health Campus.
Michael was born Feb. 14, 1935, in Hempfield Township, Pa. He was the son of the late Michael and Anna Hasson Kottar. He proudly served in the United States Army with the 2nd Division A.G. Postal Section in Fort Richardson, Alaska.
Michael worked and retired from General Motors in Lordstown. While employed, he was a member of the UAW Local 1112.
He was a die-hard Pittsburgh Steelers, Penguins and Pirates fan. He enjoyed attending home games and watching them on television, always wearing a Pittsburgh shirt or hat. He enjoyed reading the sports section of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, checking on the scores and recaps of the games.
Michael was a hardworking, generous and selfless man, best described by his family and friends. He adored his family, especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed maintaining his house and yard in Austintown over the years and keeping his cars in mint condition.
Michael is survived by his twin daughters, Amy (Michael) Akers of Pickerington and Renee (Gregory) Selby of Nazareth, Pa.; and four grandchildren, Paige, Benjamin, Kyra and Vincent.
Michael was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen; parents; son, the Rev. Michael Kottar; and sister, Diana.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 12, 2022, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, 600 Hill Road N, Pickerington. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests material tributes take the form of contributions to Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 4490 Norquest Blvd., Austintown, OH 44515.
