Gary L. Tinkham 1935-2022

FORT MYERS, Fla. — Gary Lee “Skip” Tinkham, 87, of Warren, passed away peacefully at home in Fort Myers, Fla., with his wife, Patty, by his side, Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2022, after a hard-fought battle with kidney disease.

He was born April 4, 1935, to Carl and Ethyl Barnett Tinkham.

Skip loved the communities he lived in and embraced life in all aspects. He ran Cole Valley Motors in Warren with the attitude “the customer comes first.”

Skip was active with the Youngstown Country Club, Trumbull County Country Club, and later, the Gulf Harbour Yacht and Country Club, playing golf and gin with friends whenever he had the chance. He was an avid boater, captaining “Skip’s Toy” on Lake Erie and Lake Michigan, and in The Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean.

He was a man of few words to most, but to those who truly knew him, Skip was a man of great insights who deeply cared about those people and causes he loved. Many of his most-treasured conversations were after dinner, while he had a cigar.

Skip is survived by his wife, Patricia Tinkham; sister, Judy (Norman) Lay; daughter, Cindi (George) Japuncha; three grandchildren, Charlie, Heather and Nicole; his stepchildren, James (Kristen) Policy, Dan Policy, Ed (Christy) Policy, Kerry Groth and Kathleen Policy; along with his eight stepgrandchildren, Ben, Yazmin, Simon, Carmen, Nicholas, Alexandra, Luke and Drew.

Skip was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Ethyl; as well as his son, Bobby Tinkham.

Skip will be laid to rest in Warren, with details forthcoming at a later date.
