Ryan Getz 1979-2022

McDONALD — Ryan Michael Getz, 43, transitioned to eternal life, Thursday, Oct. 20, 2022.

Intelligent, caring and sensitive, Ryan joined his brother and best friend, Andy, and his heavenly family, after an accident and extended, debilitating illness. In spirit, Ryan dwells now in eternal joy, love and peace, with full understanding achieved, thanks be to God.

Ryan was born July 25, 1979, the son of Raymond and Linda Burnside Getz. He was a 1998 graduate of McDonald High School and attended Kent State University, one semester short of graduation.

Ryan was a baptized and confirmed member of Grace Lutheran Church in Austintown.

Ryan dearly loved his son, Lourenzo, and his Brazilian “family” and friends. His mediocre Portuguese was appreciated as he helped friends learn English. He embraced the culture, camaraderie and enjoyed the delicious food. “Gringo” Ryan’s legacy of love and caring will be carried on by Lourenzo; amigos, Joyce, Leo, Valentim and Sabrina; and “Godfather,” Feliphe, just to name a few.

“Eu vou sempre amar voce! Bencaos de Deus.”

Ryan made friends (too) easily and trusted everyone. He always looked out for the downtrodden and lonely souls and would help anyone in need of a friend. He would say, “My door is always open and my phone is always on.”

If you were a friend that sincerely cared about Ryan and stayed in touch through the good days and bad, please know that he appreciated you immensely. If you fell out of touch but fondly remember Ryan, please take a moment to reach out to someone who needs a friend and spread kindness.

Ryan’s family greatly appreciates the huge outpouring of love, kind words and sharing of great memories by so many longtime friends. A special thank you to Joey and Annette for honoring Ryan through the beautiful video of happier, healthier times.

Beside the love for his family and friends, Ryan loved animals. His therapy dog, CoCo, was his constant companion, followed by his new pup, Nugget. They truly made Ryan’s life happier. He would often take in strays, giving them the love and care they deserved.

Ryan’s smile was as big as his heart, his laugh unique and his hugs would leave you breathless. Ryan also loved nature, history, metaphysics and a good debate — which, he always argued, he won.

Ryan is survived by his parents, Linda and Ray Getz; his son, Lourenzo; his godmother, “Aunt Retta;” his godfather, “Uncle Bobby;” and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Ryan’s beloved therapy dog, Nugget, has been reunited with his siblings — running and playing as Ryan smiles down upon them.

Ryan was preceded in death by his brother, Andy Getz; “Nana” Minnie Burnside; grandfather, Myron Burnside; “Grammy” Ruth Getz; “Grandpa Joe” Getz; and Uncle Dickie and Aunt Debbie.

A private memorial is planned.
