Dixie Lee Booth 1935-2022

SARASOTA, Fla. -- Dixie Lee Booth, 87, formerly of Youngstown, peacefully passed away on Thursday, Oct. 6, 2022, from a general decline in health and advanced aging.

Dixie Lee was born in Youngstown, to Joseph and Neva Lee, on July 28, 1935. She grew up with one older sister, Betty (Connor), who preceded her in death.

Dixie worked for Jerry Deibel in Youngstown prior to meeting her husband, John B. Booth Sr. Dixie met the love of her life in 1966 and she and John were married on April 8, 1967, and lived most of their lives in Youngstown. They also later lived in Tucson, Ariz., and most recently, in Sarasota, Fla. for the past 20 years.

Dixie enjoyed volunteering at the Florence Crittenton Home for unwed mothers in Youngstown. She was an avid golfer and belonged to the Youngstown Country Club. She and John were both avid golfers and enjoyed playing golf at several notable golf courses in the United States and abroad. Dixie and John also loved to travel. They traveled extensively throughout their 50-plus years of marriage in the United States and Europe, and enjoyed many cruises to various parts of the world.

Dixie was an excellent cook and loved to entertain, and was known to be a gracious hostess of several lavish parties for many friends while living in Youngstown. Her love of entertaining continued as she hosted several magnificent dinner parties also in Tucson, and later in Sarasota.

Dixie was a kind and loving woman and was very devoted to her loving husband, John. Dixie also loved her children and grandchildren and was a very generous, compassionate and giving woman.

John and Dixie's generous charitable contributions included St. John's Episcopal Church in Youngstown; The Salvation Army, where John also volunteered; and Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, Fla.

A strong part of Dixie's loving character was her very spirited way of enjoying life to the fullest, in addition to her unyielding optimism, even when faced with significant health problems. She was a very devoted wife and mother and would always offer her advice and assistance to others in need.

Dixie was preceded in death by her husband, John; and her sister, Betty Lee Connor.

Dixie is survived by her children, Brad E. Booth (Linda) of Tampa, Fla., John B. Booth Jr. (Carlynn) of Harbor Springs, Mich. and Margaret (Ron) Anderson of Grand Rapids, Mich.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and her nephew, Douglas Connor of Austin, Texas.

Per her wishes, Cremation Rites were followed and a private family service was held at Curlew Hills Memorial Cemetery, in Palm Harbor, Fla. Dixie is now at eternal rest with her beloved husband, John, in the glory of God's Kingdom.
