David J. Mathey 1956-2022

He was born in Alliance, raised in Boardman and settled in Tallmadge. Dave graduated from Boardman High School, where he played football. He moved to California and started working at General Motors in 1976. He retired from GM Lordstown in 2012, with 36 years of service. After retirement, he cut grass for nine years at Silver Lake Country Club. Dave loved to travel, golf, craft beer, feeding the birds and backyard deer, and being outdoors. He enjoyed Lori’s cooking, driving his GM truck and loved the Cleveland Browns and Ohio State Buckeyes.

He was preceded in death by his father, John C. Mathey; and nephew, Michael Berry.

Dave is survived by his mother, Kathryn L. (nee Emrick) and loving wife, Lori; the sons he was proud of, Ben (Ashley) and Sam; siblings, Becky (Steve) Berry, Steve (Julie) Mathey and Doug (Jeanne) Mathey; nieces and nephews, Stephanie, Caitlin (CJ), Travis (Hannah), Maia and Jack; stepchildren, Amber and Daniel; and many friends.

A celebration of life will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2022, at Silver Lake Country Club, 1325 Graham Road, Silver Lake, Ohio, where memories will be shared.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of choice or Plant a Tree.
