Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Newman 1935-2022

NORTH RIDGEVILLE — Elizabeth “Betty” Jane Hovis Newman, 86, of North Ridgeville, and formerly of Newton Falls, died Friday, June 3, 2022, at The Avenue at North Ridgeville Nursing Home.

She was born Aug. 13, 1935, in Leavittsburg, the daughter of Floyd D. Hovis and Lillian Simbold Hovis.

A graduate of Leavittsburg High School, Betty worked at Ohio Lamp in Warren until she retired. She married Harry E. Newman Sr. on July 10, 1953.

Betty was an active member of Second Christian Church in Warren and was a member of Eastern Star, Warren. She gave much time to serving meals to the poor and to working in the church’s food pantry. Betty shared her love with numerous dogs throughout the years, from a poodle, Gidget, to a rottweiler, Bear, and many more in-between. In later years, she spent much of her time crocheting beautiful gifts for family and friends.

Surviving are three children: Harry E. (Donna) Newman Jr. of Champion, Robin E. (Bill) Apar of Avon Lake and Wendy E. (Ron) Croell of Newton Falls; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Sr., who died May 15, 2011; two sisters, Mary and Carol; and a brother, Floyd “Ed.”

Arrangements were entrusted to Busch Funeral and Crematory services, Avon Lake, Ohio. Per Betty’s wishes, she was cremated. There are no calling hours nor services.
