Robert L. Moderalli 1937-2022

Bob was born Jan. 1, 1937, in Youngstown, the loving son of Patrick and Irene Becker Moderalli. He attended The Rayen School, graduated from Liberty High School, and earned his bachelor’s degree from Youngstown State University. He served his country with the United States Air Force Reserve.

He was a developer of executive homes and commercial buildings, earning a distinction award from the chamber of commerce. During his career, he was responsible for constructing numerous projects in Ohio, West Virginia and Pennsylvania.

He will be missed most by his beautiful wife of almost 62 years, Rose Mary Galko.

Bob was proud father to three children, Gary (Nancy) Moderalli, Attorney Robert (Lori) Moderalli and Amy (Scott) O’Hara, whom he leaves to cherish his memory and legacy, along with five grandchildren, Nathan Moderalli, Victoria Moderalli, and Brady, Connor and Ireland O’Hara; and stepgrandchildren, C.R (Alex) Morjock, Katie (Lenny) Morjock and Clint Morjock. He also leaves behind two sisters, Bonnie (David) George and Patricia Williams; and sister-in-law, Betty Galko from Austin, Texas.

He was raised on the North Side, so naturally he loved everything Italian, from the pasta to the sports cars. He also had a sweet tooth — his love for banana splits and his wife’s homemade orange cookies was unmatched. Bob loved to travel throughout all the years, particularly his trips to Hawaii with Rose, and his annual trips to Hilton Head Island with the entire family. Bob often entertained others with his sense of humor and wit. He loved to talk, tell stories and make people laugh. He was very well known and liked at the Marc’s deli, Walmart pharmacy and Huntington Bank.

Bob was most well known for his Poland car rides in his silver ’96 BMW, with his beloved dog, Bella, with her head happily out the window. His smile could light up any room and his laugh was contagious. His biggest smiles would shine while watching his kids and grandkids grow up.

His passion was golf, tirelessly trying to improve his game. If not on a golf course, you could always find him and his wife together on a driving range until closing time. He was a member of the Mill Creek senior golf league and loved the members and years spent golfing with his buddies, especially Bill and Chris.

Bob met the love of his life when he was 18 years old and Rose was only 15. They were married four years later, June 25, 1960. There was nothing he would not do for the love of his life and lifetime best friend.

With his greatest pride and joy being his family, he completely adored his grandchildren. From watching Nathan’s football games to Victoria’s dance competitions, he was there; from Brady’s baseball games and teaching Connor everything he knows about golf, to picking up Ireland from preschool, not only was he there, but he was always front and center. He was their hero and his love never went unfelt.

His family is comforted in knowing that he is reunited with those who preceded him in death: his parents; his mother-in-law, Christine Yakubovic; his brother-in-law, Joseph Galko; and many aunts and uncles.

The family would like to thank Hospice of Mahoning Valley for their gentle and caring support through their journey with at-home hospice care. They are also very thankful for their time they spent working with Schiavone Funeral Home.

Friends and family will be welcome for visitation hours from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 2, 2022, at Schiavone Funeral Home on Belmont Avenue. A procession will follow to Holy Family Parish in Poland, with an 11 a.m. memorial Mass.
