Richard L. Ohlin 1947-2022

NEW MIDDLETOWN — Richard L. Ohlin, 75, passed away Sunday, May 15, 2022, at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.

Richard was born Feb. 6, 1947, in New Castle, Pa., to George L. “Woody” and Justine Ohlin. He was the second of 10 children and grew up in New Middletown. He graduated from Cardinal Mooney High School in 1965. He then earned his real estate license from the Youngstown Technological Institute.

Richard began his real estate career in 1970, working for several local Realtors, mainly Mayo & Orvets of Youngstown, where he won several sales awards. He was elected president of the Youngstown Area Board of Realtors, Sales Associate Section.

Richard relocated to Florida in 1980, where he worked at various condominium resorts as sales and project director. He subsequently relocated to the Caribbean Islands, managing sales as project director in Aruba, Curacao, the Yucatan Peninsula and Cancun, Mexico.

Upon retiring, Richard returned to New Middletown, where he helped care for his mother and sister.

Richard made friends easily and was always ready with a story or joke to tell. He made countless acquaintances over the years and was known for his warm, humorous personality and big laugh. He thoroughly enjoyed life and being with family and those he loved.

He was an avid sports fan, especially the Cleveland Indians (not Guardians!) and attended many games over the years. He was also a big fan of Elvis Presley. He will be greatly missed.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents; son, James; brothers, Robert and George “Woody”; and sister, Anita.

He is survived by his son, Richard Lee; grandson, Emory; and granddaughter, Madysyn; brothers, Douglas, Donald (Anne) of Fort Myers, Fla., Kenneth (Laura) of North Canton and Michael (Kelly) of Palmyra, Pa.; sisters, Dianne Wood (Jeff) and Cindy Bones, both of New Middletown; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial Mass will be offered 11 a.m. Monday, June 13, 2022, at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in New Middletown. Celebrant will be the Rev. Steve Zeigler. Guests will be received at the church prior to the Mass. There will be no calling hours.

Richard’s remains were donated to Cleveland Clinic’s body donation program for purposes of carrying out scientific research. He will ultimately be laid to rest in Zion Cemetery in New Middletown.
