Andrea Pernotto 1941-2022

POLAND — Andrea Antoinette Marie Pernotto, age 80, died peacefully on Friday, March 25, 2022, at Mercy Health Hospice House. Andrea resided at Shepherd of the Valley Retirement Community in Poland.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Anthony J. and Veronica A. Kology Pernotto.

Andrea was a 1959 graduate of Ursuline High School, received her college degree from Youngstown State University and a master’s degree in education focused on special education from St. Mary of Notre Dame, with post-graduate training at Cardinal Stritch University. Formerly, she was a member of the Ursuline Sisters Community in Canfield, from 1959 to 1977. She was a teacher in the Youngstown Catholic Diocese. Andrea was passionate about her work as an education consultant in the Youngstown community and a teacher at Leonard Kirtz School in Austintown, from 1971 until she retired in 2006. As an early childhood intervention specialist, Andrea taught children with physical and mental challenges and their families. She saw value and beauty in every child and was gifted in her ability to help them engage and maximize their potential. Andrea loved growing miniature roses, was a member of the American Rose Society of Youngstown and over the years, won several blue ribbons at the Canfield Fair.

She is survived by her sisters, Maryann L. Pernotto and Jane Pernotto Ehrman (James W.) and niece, Sarah O’Connor (Chris), all of Napa, Calif.; and nephews, James A. Ehrman and Mark A. Ehrman, both of Portland, Ore. She also leaves great-nephews, Jacob and Ryan O’Connor of Napa, Calif.

Andrea was loved by her family and friends, whom she loved dearly.

Andrea donated her body to the Northeast Ohio Medical University, Department of Anatomy and Neurobiology.

A memorial service to celebrate her life will be announced at a later date.
