Allan S. Hlebovy 1951-2022

WESTLAKE — “It’s a good thing, then, being able to share life with each other.” a.s.h.

Allan S. Hlebovy, 71, transitioned to eternal life Tuesday, April 12, 2022, at his home in Olmsted Township.

He was born in Struthers, on Jan. 23, 1951, to John and Julia Cvengros Hlebovy, and attended school at St. Nicholas and Struthers High School. Allan went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in philosophy (YSU), master’s degrees in library science and philosophy (KSU), a paralegal degree (KSU), and was a licensed Notary Public. His passion for philosophy was inspired by Dr. Martin Greenman, a former professor at YSU. He worked in library positions at NEOUCOM and the Cleveland Public Library, and at the Lorain Correctional Institution for the past 22 years as a librarian.

Allan often entertained others with his wit and sense of humor. Journaling and running were two of his favorite pastimes, and although he ran the Boston Marathon, the most fulfilling runs were those he ran in Mill Creek Park and along the shores of Lake Erie.

He was always reminding his family of their strength and love with the saying, “Always together, never apart,” and he looked forward to doing all “the little things” for them every day. Allan was a husband, dad and friend to many, but he took the most pride in being the most loving “Papa” and best friend to his granddaughter, Andi.

He leaves to cherish, with heavy hearts, his wife, Mary DePiore Hlebovy, whom he married Feb. 7, 1985; his daughter, Mallary Hlebovy-Mancino; and his precious granddaughter, Andi Mancino. He also leaves two brothers, John (Kam) Hlebovy of Los Gatos,Calif. and Dennis (Mary) Hlebovy of Poland; and many loving nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Julia Hlebovy.

Friends and family may pay their respects from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 19, 2022, at Wasko Funeral Home, 216 Coitsville Road, Campbell. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 20, 2022, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Ken Miller officiating. Burial will follow in St. John Catholic Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Allan’s memory to Providence House, 2050 W. 32nd St., Cleveland, OH, 44113.
